e-Learning in Korea
Korea invests almost 7% of its GDP in education expenditure. This investment is one of the larger proportions in the Korean economy and one of the largest in the world. This important segment of Korea's economy offers exceptionally good opportunities for UK education, while educational investment inside Korea itself (government investment) provides increasingly profitable opportunities for UK business.
Korea's e-learning market is one of the most promising niche areas in the educational tools and services industry. With the Korean government's initiatives in IT infrastructure, Korea, a nation of 48 million, is the most wired country in the world, with the number of broadband subscribers well over twelve million.
E-learning education has become a viable education option for many Koreans and with the virtual explosion of Korean student interest in e-learning, business opportunities are growing significantly. Already large corporations are beginning to enter into the market. Korea's traditional reverences for quality education, combined with a solid internet infrastructure, makes it one of the most attractive on-line education markets in the world. The value of the e-Learning market in 2008 was approximately $2 billion.
Business opportunities for UK educational service providers are great in Korea, where institutions recognise the importance of training and invest substantially in staff training programmes.
