Virtual Worlds in Education

May 1st 2008

G21 Paterson Land
Moray House School of Education

The use of virtual worlds within education for simulation, research, performance, design, collaboration and communication has been increasing recently, with many UK universities setting up a virtual presence in Second Life.

In this event, Fiona Littleton and Hamish Macleod will briefly highlight how their colleagues are using Second Life in the University of Edinburgh (http://www.vue.ed.ac.uk/); they will detail how they are using Second Life for teaching, learning and research in their MSc in e-Learning programme in the School of Education, University of Edinburgh (http://www.education.ed.ac.uk/e-learning/); and they will provide a live demonstration of Second Life with plenty of time for discussion after the presentation.

A virtual meeting for further discussion will take place within Second Life with Frank Lassard and Kimberley Pascal (Fiona and Hamish’s avatars) after this real life event. The time and date of this virtual session will be organised at the event.
