Global skills:

World class learning

Wednesday 23 April 2008

Church House Conference Centre
Westminster, London

The 2006 Global Skills: World Class Learning conference, attended by representatives from business and across the further education sector, concluded that the development of a robust vocational skills base to support economic growth must embrace the global dimension as an integral part of the upskilling of our citizens. The conference urged government and sector leaders to develop a coherent strategy for supporting colleges and training providers in rising to that challenge. This 2008 conference will provide a formal consultative forum for the first ever further education international strategy for England, due to be published by the Department for Innovation, Universities and Skills (DIUS) later in the spring. It offers an important opportunity for colleges, learning providers and strategic partners to debate the identified goals and objectives and develop a shared understanding of the actions needed to take the strategy forward. As well as informing the strategy’s final priorities and action plan, the results of the day will feed into a second CEL Leadership Challenges of Globalisation report.
